Coaching Philosophy: To create a fun learning environment where my players will develop a strong foundational skill set, a team-first mentality, and a coachable attitude.
Best Volleyball Moment: Winning the 1996 and 1997 NJCAA Region Title and competing in the NJCAA National Tournament. The memories I have from training and competing and traveling across the country with such wonderful players is very special.
My Life in Sports: I started playing volleyball in middle school along with basketball and softball. My passion was definitely in volleyball though. My primary position(s) was Middle and Setter (wild I know). As a senior and 3 time all area first team selection, I was named Washington County Player of the Year. I went on to play two years at Hagerstown Community College where we won two regional titles and competed nationally in the NJCAA National tournament. I also received All-American Status as a sophomore. I finished my playing career at Trevecca Nazarene University where I received All Academic Honors both junior and senior year and helped to kick-start an up and coming program at the time. Following earning my masters in Human Performance, I took the Head Coaching position at Gettysburg College from 2005-2009 where we won a Centennial Conference Championship and averaged 20+ wins yearly. Following Gettysburg, I spent 2010-2018 at rival institution Muhlenberg College where the program went from 6 wins in 2010 to averaging 20 wins yearly from 2013 until I left in 2018. In 2018, I made the move to Lehigh University where I am currently the Head Women’s Volleyball Coach.
When I’m Not Coaching Volleyball: You could find me carpooling my kids to all their sporting events or supporting my husband’s college basketball team the Drew Rangers. I also am pretty social and enjoy spending time with my family and friends and doing projects around the house.
Favorite subject in school: My favorite subject in school was definitely Anatomy and Physiology. I had one of the most inspiring professors at HCC, she made learning about the body so exciting that I ended up pursuing a degree in Human Performance.
Favorite Book: My most favorite book is “The Energy Bus” by Jon Gordon. I am a huge believer in energy exchange and I love that this book really focuses on how our perspective can completely change our results.
Favorite Movie: This is such a hard one! I am a sucker for any Disney movie. I could watch all of them over and over again. Outside of Disney movies, I would have to go with a top 3 – Shawshank Redemption, How to lose a guy in 10 days, and Sweet Home Alabama.
Favorite Quote: “Life is 10% what happens and 90% how you react to it.”
Person I’d Like to Have Dinner With: Jesus.
Something You Probably Don’t Know About Me: You probably don’t know that I grew up in a coaching family, the gym was literally my second home. My father is a long-time high school basketball coach that is still one of the winningest coaches in the state of MD. I am also the wife of a very successful College Basketball Coach and I was a 3-sport athlete. (volleyball, basketball, and Track & Field)
